Defy expectation and embrace freedom at Harrah’s
Created by Courageous and produced by JOJX, director Jake Dypka celebrates the thrill of following your instincts, choosing the present, and living life to the fullest.
Harrah’s Resort Southern California has released two short films that turn everyday moments into cinematic celebrations of personal freedom, spontaneity and living in the now.
Developed by Courageous and produced by JOJX, director Jake Dypka applies his signature craft-first approach to the campaign, blending large-scale filmmaking with his trademark dry humour.
Set to Matt Monro’s iconic anthem Born Free, The Movement follows a man who reaches a breaking point while stuck in a hopelessly stagnant queue. Fed up with the endless wait and the aimless chat from the person in front, he decides to ditch the line, reclaim his time and chase his impulses. This personal rebellion quickly snowballs into a massive movement, inspiring a crowd of people to follow and reject inertia to pursue immediate joy. The film unfolds through high-energy vignettes that act as a rallying cry for Harrah’s Resort Southern California, a destination designed for people who believe that life is too short to spend waiting on the sidelines.

The second spot in the series, Fun Gets Boring, takes a slightly different approach, with the protagonist breaking the fourth wall by speaking to camera as inspiration strikes. He fights against conformity, rejecting reservations and dress codes in favour of non-scheduling and living more spontaneously, eventually finding himself at Harrah’s to embrace fun unapologetically.
“There is something incredibly universal about that breaking point where you realise you're wasting time instead of living,” says Dypka. “We wanted to take simple, everyday frustrations and elevate them into cinematic and comedic shared moments that capture the pure rush of human connection and embracing autonomy.”
"’Fun’ has become a participation trophy,” said Jill Barrett, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Harrah’s. “At Harrah’s Resort Southern California, we aren't interested in just meeting expectations; we’re here to create the kind of unforgettable memories that stay with you. As we approach a decade of Funner, we want to remind our guests that if they just want 'fun,' they can go to a dentist’s waiting room. If they want to feel alive, they belong here.”
“Somewhere along the way, fun became sanitised, scheduled, forgettable and boring,” said Ryan Berman Founder at Courageous. “With Choose Funner, Harrah’s has turned Fun Is Boring into a rally cry against the predictable, one that 2,500 team members have been trained to bring to life. The result is a guest experience that feels less programmed and more spontaneous.”
The films act like a love letter to self-determination, highlighting the magic of making a bold choice and the boundless possibility of whatever comes next.
