Covert has welcomed Adam McHale to the team as a 2D Lead, bringing a craft-first approach built on equal parts creativity and problem-solving.
Drawn to film by the way great shots are constructed, he’s always valued the collaborative side of VFX, sharing ideas, finding solutions, and pushing a shot until it lands exactly as intended.
McHale’s been into film for as long as he can remember, not just the stories, but the craft behind them. VFX gave him the sweet spot between creative thinking and problem-solving, and over time he’s found that the best work nearly always comes from working closely with other people and figuring things out together.
He got his first film credit on The Greatest Showman, which is still a big moment for him, especially seeing how huge it became. Since then, he’s worked across major commercial campaigns too, including a few John Lewis Christmas ads, and supervised projects for Ladbrokes, Ikea, Amazon and Three Mobile. Along the way, he’s built a reputation for staying calm when things get busy, keeping communication clear, and focusing on the details without slowing everyone down.
McHale says Covert’s culture was a big pull. “The team’s fully remote, but genuinely connected.” He’s also keen to get stuck into the studio’s evolving workflows, including where AI can actually be useful day to day.
Dan Andrew, Head of Creative at Covert, said: “Adam’s calm leadership, attention to detail and experience across major campaigns make him a great fit for Covert. He understands what it takes to deliver at pace without compromising the craft, and we’re excited to have him on board.”
For McHale, the focus now is simple: help the team do great work, bring more consistency to the process, and keep raising the bar on the final finish.
McHale’s advice for anyone starting out: don’t be afraid to ask questions, and always get a second opinion. He still likes having a fresh pair of eyes on a shot, because a new perspective can be the thing that unlocks it.
