Cannes Contenders: UK
Executive Creative Director of St Luke’s London, Richard Denney, on some "huge ideas" and a piece of "pure perfection" that he thinks could win big on the Croisette next month.
Kiyan Prince Foundation #LongLiveThePrince
I expect to see this incredibly important and touching piece of work win big across multiple categories. A huge idea executed brilliantly and such a mammoth project to pull off too, with multiple brands and disciplines all playing their part to get this stellar piece of work out in the real world. Hat properly doffed for this clever initiative.

Setapp Don’t Get Side-tracked. Get Setapp
These brilliantly dark and entertaining set of ads have got Cannes Lions written all over them. Not only do the scripts alone make them worthy of shiny Lions, the direction from comedy great, Jeff Low, makes them special. They will bring a lot of laughter to the jury room, for sure. If only we could see more ridiculously dark comedy like this more often, but our local ad police sadly won’t pass it.
Channel 4 Tokyo Olympics 2020 Super. Human
Three minutes of pure perfection I enjoy watching time and time again. "To be a Paralympian there’s got to be something wrong with you"; What a killer line that is too. Genius, in fact. Add some kick-ass direction, editing and musical joy, along with epic performances from the most incredible Paralympians and its gold all the way. Huge congrats to all involved.

Burberry Open Spaces
The follow up to Festive wasn’t going to be easy but Megaforce lived up to their name and smashed it again with this one. A complete energy shift from its predecessor, but a timely reminder, during lockdown, showing the spirit of freedom and fantasy which makes this film extremely poignant as well as memorable. The music and sound design sprinkles extra magic on it too. If only we could fly like this in the real world. I’d love nothing more than to give it a go, although I’d look like a football fan from the early 2000s dripping head to toe in Burberry, and would probably bounce along that wheat field rather than glide. I’ve changed my mind. I'll leave it to the cool kids.

Calm The Invisible Opponent
Calm are no strangers when it comes to highly impactful and effective campaigns, and stepping into the ring with their first ever TV ad should add even more silverware to their huge collection. The idea is simple and provocative and the message is a powerful one. The use of twice heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is clever, adding more weight to the call to action for men who potentially see speaking up about their problems as a sign of weakness. A real belter.
