Capturing authenticity is a much-attempted, seldom-achieved goal in filmmaking, but with his new promo for bluegrass artist Billy Strings, Bryan Schlam gets to the grit.
Following a truck driver as he makes the long journey home to his family, 10,000 Miles From a Friend does an excellent job of both visualising the song's heartfelt lyrics and forming a strong narrative through snapshots of life rather than dialogue.
Casting a genuine trucker as its lead, the Los York-produced piece leans into a well-captured authenticity; the fabricated storytelling rooted in a discernible truth.
