Blinkink announce the worldwide representation of Australian director Radheya Jang, following several years of creative collaboration.
The epitome of a home-grown talent, Jang started working at Blinkink two years ago as our director's assistant. Blinkink met him after his short The Quiet won Best Animation and Best International Film at the BFI Future Film Festival in 2021. After winning Best Documentary in 2023 for his short Pacing the Pool, and Best Animation in 2024 for Bird Drone, Blinkink offered him a job to join them at the studio in London, making the move over from Perth.
During this time, he's been working away at his latest short film, Trading Cards, which has been making waves on the international festival circuit. It's picked up Best Short Animation at Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, the Yoram Gross Award for Best Australian Animation at Flickerfest, audience awards at Shorts Shorts Film Festival & Asia and Fantasia International Film Festival, and a Special Jury Mention at SXSW London.
The short has also been selected for a whopping 25 Academy Award-qualifying festivals, alongside screenings of Jang's wider work at Raindance, Palm Springs International ShortFest, Sydney Film Festival, AFI Fest and Sitges
Jang’s award-winning short Trading Cards is a dark fantasy animation exploring the weight of living with OCD, following an enigmatic man who journeys back in time to find his younger self, seemingly to revisit nostalgia of trading cards.
Last year, Jang directed his first commercial with Blinkink, creating a pair of 2D animated films for Dyson that reimagined some of the brand’s most in-demand products through his distinctive visuals.
Jang also brought his distinct mixed-media style to a segment of WaterAid’s kaleidoscopic film, celebrating the importance of clean water alongside 11 collaborators.
With 400+ official selections, 120+ awards and 15 Academy Award-qualifying festival selections, Jang's short Bird Drone follows a lonely seagull who falls for a human-operated drone with a limited battery life.
