RSA Films has announced the addition of acclaimed directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck for commercial representation.

The news coincides with the much-anticipated premiere of their latest feature, Freaky Tales, at the Sundance Film Festival 2024.

Boden and Fleck first gained recognition with their Sundance-premiered film Half Nelson (2006), starring the then-rising star Ryan Gosling. The film earned Gosling an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of a high school history teacher battling a drug addiction while forming an unlikely bond with a student. Their portfolio also includes the acclaimed indie films Sugar (nominated for the Sundance Grand Jury Prize), It's Kind of a Funny Story, and Mississippi Grind. The directing duo's blockbuster hit Captain Marvel (2019) grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

Luke Ricci, President of RSA Films US, expressed his admiration for Boden and Fleck, saying, "Ever since Half Nelson, I've been a huge fan of Anna and Ryan. Their ability to explore various genres and themes while grounding their narratives in authentic characters is truly remarkable. Their upcoming film Freaky Tales promises to enthral audiences with its vivid portrayal of Oakland and the late '80s cultural backdrop—a captivating original production. We are thrilled to welcome them to the RSA roster. They will be a valuable creative asset to our agency partners."

Boden and Fleck shared their excitement about joining RSA, stating, "We are passionate about bold, visual storytelling, infused with humour, genuine human emotions, and compelling music. RSA has consistently set high standards in this genre of work, and we look forward to collaborating with their fantastic roster of directors to bring our vision to more short-form storytelling."

Boden and Fleck have also achieved success in television, directing and executive producing Mrs. America, featuring Cate Blanchett, as well as episodes of Billions, The Affair, and The Big C. Their recent work includes Masters of the Air, executive produced by Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Gary Goetzman for Apple TV+.

Boden, originally from outside Boston, and Fleck, who met while studying film at Columbia and NYU, respectively, embarked on their filmmaking journey together. They began by collaborating on student short films and later transitioned to documentaries. Their short film "Gowanus, Brooklyn" won a short filmmaking award at Sundance and served as the foundation for their breakthrough feature film "Half Nelson." The duo also delved into commercial filmmaking, creating a series of short films for Cartier, including "The Proposal – My Favourite Song."

Boden and Fleck maintain a synergistic working relationship, with Fleck noting, "We truly do everything together—writing, shot-listing, location scouting, rehearsals, editing, and mixing. Anna was the editor on our first four features, so she is deeply involved in post-production."

Boden added, "We are excited to explore short-form storytelling with RSA. Crafting a narrative with a beginning, middle, and end is a different challenge in a 30- or 60-second spot compared to a movie or TV series. We relish the opportunity to engage a new dimension of our creative abilities in delivering concise and memorable stories."
