Aly Migliori: A Few Of My Favourite Things
Riverside director Aly Migliori shares the books, the bike and the beloved bits of home that help her find creativity wherever work takes her.
As a director, you get very comfortable living out of a suitcase.
There’s something very special about the way we, as filmmakers, get to explore the world, discover new industries and meet incredible people.
And then, there’s nothing that feels as good as coming back home.
So this is a mix of things I love at my desk, and the ways I try to find myself, wherever I am.
The Books
I love books.
There are too many in my home right now.
I love looking through them and finding notes and thoughts from yester-me.
All the technical books and interviews are amazing, but nothing is as inspiring as a great story.

The Dogs
I will say hi to your dog!
I have two large dogs, Lou and Uhoh.
I love how they pull me from my screens, and I love the routine of early morning and evening walks with them.
Dogs make life and art better!
The Bike
When getting close to filming dates, I like to go for long bike rides and replay the same song over and over.
I let my mind drift to the things I may have overlooked, or the pacing I have to get right.
I do this wherever I am.
The Desk Lamp
Warm colour temperature :)
When I’m writing or working on a treatment, I stay up super late.
At night, time moves differently.
No one bothers you.
All the anxieties of the day are gone.
Nothing else to do but be there with your thoughts.
The Zoom Corner
I love a little bit of chaos with stuff that represents me.
And I like having props from past work on my shelves.
Filmmaking is such a team effort in pursuit of creating, and on shorts, it’s all favours.
Everyone gives so much.
It’s a nice reminder.
Go Bills!
