If you didn't make it to David Bowie Is... the sell-out museum exhibition which toured the globe and ended at New York’s Brooklyn Museum last year, don't fret - you can now experience the whole thing from the comfort of your sofa, with Oscar-winner Gary Oldman as your guide.
Launched to commemorate what would've been the Starman's 72nd birthday, the immersive app allows fans to explore more than 400 exhibits, including video and images from Bowie’s life on (and off) camera, without glass barriers, time constraints or hordes of goggling visitors.
Created by Bowie’s estate and Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. (who hosted the exhibition in Tokyo in 2017), it's the first time an exhibition has been transformed into this kind of immersive AR experience, the app was
For the princely sum of £7.99, you can download the app (available in iOS and Android), don a pair of headphones and then walk through the virtual rooms of the museum, admiring 3D renderings of costumes, lyrics, videos, storyboards and diary entries, complete with an accompanying audiovisual tour. The app also allows you to zoom in on lyric sheets and, by moving your phone, rotate the outlandish costumes a full 360 degrees.
Another bonus of the app is the additional exclusive content - not displayed in the physical show - which spans footage from several tours - including the 1974 Diamond Dogs tour, and the 1976 Station to Station, plus clips from Bowie's experimental film Diamond Dogs.
