When everyone's posting pics of their home-roasted granola, palm-fringed beaches, engagement rings and cute babies, scrolling through a social feed can leave you feeling very far from #blessed.
It's no wonder that 62 per cent of people feel inadequate comparing their lives to those online. But rather than keeping up with the Joneses and going to the trouble of living an Insta-worthy life, why not just get the photos instead? No-one will ever know...
That's the premise behind Lifefaker - a new business whose mission is to help you fake perfection on social media by selling ready-made photo packages you can post as your own.
Want to make people green with envy at the sight of you lounging by an infinity pool when your budget's more local lido? Go for 'The Look At My Holiday and Cry Package'. Perennially single while all your friends are getting married and popping out kids? Try 'The I Found Love and Babies Package'. Or there's 'The My Weekend Was Amazing Thanks Package' - the perfect bluff for an IRL weekend spent huddled in a duvet, rinsing Netflix.
Accompanying the launch, there's a series of glowing testimonials from real Lifefaker users, with one claiming that 'she's never seemed happier'.
But if that all sounds a bit Black Mirror, that's because it's actually an elaborate stunt cooked up by AMV BBDO for Sanctus, a start-up aiming to change perceptions around mental health.
When users visit the Lifefaker.com site, they receive a message reminding them about the pressures from social media and directing them to a film [below] exploring how unhealthy behaviours on social media can impact our mental health, and what we can do to change them.
