It seems World Wildlife Fund campaigns are like buses. You wait ages for one to turn, then two turn up at once. With I Protect Tigers and Era of Man, the charity have created two commercials with very different purposes that take us on a trip around the world.



That world is the subject of the latter film, directed by Anthony Dickenson of All Mighty Pictures. In Era of Man, the ad takes some hints from David Attenborough's Planet Earth and gives us some stunning hi-def views of this world and the wildlife that calls it home. This is united by a rousing soundtrack by String and Tins, which matched the director's brief of "a piece of work that spoke from the heart, didn't feel contrived, and gave enough emotion and weight to the film without being too worthy."

 

 

The second campaign, I Protect Tigers, is more formally experimental. Directed by Martin Stirling, it owes something to his most famous ad, The Most Shocking Second a DayIn this video, he cuts between the stories of three people who, in their own way, protect tigers; Pavel Fomenko, head of the Rare Species Conservation Unit at WWF Russia's Amur Branch; Singye Wangmo, senior forestry officer of Royal Manas National Park, Bhutan; and a man planning to fundraise for WWF home in the UK. The latter two also appeal in their own short films appearing on the charity's social feeds.



This series of films saw Stirling deep in the wilderness, travelling 3 days out of the cities in extreme weather, from the boiling heat of Bhutan to the frozen wastes of Russia. However, it was all worth it according to the director in order to create, "something that was more like a Nike commercial, so the audience would get excited and see how much energy, excitement and danger there is around the work they do."
