It’s often been said that anybody can be a director these days with the development of mobile cameras. And it seems businesses are no different thanks to a new initiative unveiled today from YouTube.

The YouTube Director app – available on iOS only here – provides businesses with a step-by-step model and tips on how to create a good online ad.

The app allows business owners to create high quality video content from the comfort of their phone and teaches businesses how to show off products or services in a bid to attract more customers through their doors.

Small-to-medium sized businesses – a market that does not often invest in video advertising – will benefit most from this app as the initiative is being offered to them for free with up to 130 design templates to choose from.

Bigger businesses in the UK – spending a minimum of £350 for YouTube advertising – can also access the YouTube Director onsite; another recently-launched service that connects filmmakers to businesses to create high quality and more professional-looking branded videos. Although this service is currently only available in London and Manchester and assignments can take up to three weeks to complete.

“With the YouTube Director App, we want to make it easier for businesses everywhere to be able to find new customers and engage with their audience through high quality videos,” says director of Google’s UK marketing solutions, Alice Mansergh. To find out more about the initiative, click here.
