If you had to pick a beast to take on terrors in your bathroom, wouldn’t you want it to be a fire-breathing, germ-battling, bowl-guarding dragon?

This is the premise explored with revelatory style and beauty by Not To Scale and MullenLowe for Domestos, scourge of toilet nasties everywhere.

Combining live action and animation, the spot dynamically switches from the real world to a fantastical scene, reminiscent of the enamel interior we all know so well. Live action director Luc Rëso Janin utilises the establishing seconds of reality with his trademark energy, harnessing every moment for comedic and dramatic impact until the seamless transition.

The appearance of the Domestos Dragon, unfurling in rivulets of trademark blue from the bottle, soon has the red-eyed matter lurking under the rim cowering in fear. Playful and aerodynamic character design transmits the potency of the Domestos product against the ominous germs. As the battle commences, the dragon emits its fiery breath, leaving no area untouched and every adversary obliterated into nothing. While the scene may sound whimsical, the film is kept clean, modern and contemporary with spritely environmental textures and a popping colour palette.
