Director Lebogang Rasethaba of Egg Films helms this informative series of short documentaries, Mothers and Mosquitos, for The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in collaboration with agency FCB New York.

The mixed media campaign highlights the foundations’ work related to curbing the spread of disease by vector insects (mosquito’s) in Benin and in Kenya, and demonstrates the foundations’ success in maternal intervention for mothers who face life threatening issues during childbirth.

The film's creation involved endless hours in the air, infinite kilometres on the road, countless kilograms of equipment, innumerable hours of footage accrued over close to a month.

Lebogang remarks: “The scripts were ingenious in how they took typically serious topics and transformed them into interesting and informative documentaries bursting at the seams with wit and humour. I have never seen anything like it. Together with the agency, and with the approval of the client, we used various filmic techniques and visual metaphors to bring these incredible stories to life. The films are about simple life-saving inventions and sit neatly at the intersection where beauty meets reality. The power of filmmaking as a tool for social change hit me profoundly. “
