Joining Starling is Slim Jim, a British-American filmmaker with roots in graphic design and motion graphics along with a passion for fine art; combined this brings a distinctive, craft-led visual language to his directing.

Slim Jim’s craft is built on years of hands-on work across disciplines and sharpened by his experience as an editor. His films boast a polished finish with a raw, documentary edge, always underpinned by his strong instinct for story, structure, pacing and emotion. Over his career he has directed work for global brands and leading agencies, including Puma, Tumi, Casio G-Shock, Betano, Lyle & Scott, RNLI, Heineken and HM Government.

Along the way he has garnered recognition across the industry's major awards organisations including Cannes Lions, Kinsale Sharks, the Lovie Awards, the Webby Awards and, not least, three Vimeo Staff Picks. Along with standout documentary and branded work namely Castells and Globe of Death.

When he's not shooting commercials and branded work, Slim Jim is an avid collector of vintage camcorders. This passion led him to found CamCo, a venture through which he collects and rents them out. It loops back into his filmmaking in a special way: trawling the formats for forgotten footage, he cuts the found material into gloriously nostalgic short films. By night, he also films gigs.

Charlie Stanfield, MD of Starling said: “I’ve always admired James’s work and we’ve worked together before, so signing him to Starling is an exciting new chapter for us. He's a genuine craftsman, a great collaborator and a lovely guy. I couldn't be happier to be representing him."

Slim Jim adds: “I’ve known Charlie for years and I know his passion and belief is on the same level as mine, so I couldn’t be more excited to be joining Starling and creating some killer work”

Slim Jim is now available for commercial briefs.
