Canadian production company Spy Films announce the signing of Argentine director Maca Rubio for exclusive Canadian representation.
This announcement comes after the launch of the director’s first project with SPY for Nescafé Canada. Known for her distinctive visual storytelling, emotionally resonant narratives, and acclaimed work across commercials, branded content, and film, Rubio has built a reputation as a compelling creative voice. Her ability to blend cinematic craft with authentic human storytelling has earned global recognition from the Cannes Lions Awards, ADC, and Diente awards.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome Maca to the Spy team” says SPY Managing Director and EP Marcus Trulli. “Maca brings an honest warmth to her work that is present in every frame and most recently in our Nescafe work together. She’s an extraordinary talent with a keen eye. A perfect fit for our market.”
Rubio’s path to film began in Argentina, where she moved between theatre, art, and photography before studying film direction at Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. That early grounding in the still image still informs how she sees, an attention to light, framing, and the precise moment, which she brings to working with actors and story alike.
“After the Nescafé shoot I knew I wanted to keep working with this team.” shares Rubio. “They make the kind of room where good ideas actually survive, and the roster around me is full of people I’d want to learn from. Happy to be the newest Argentine in the mix!”
With the addition of Rubio, SPY further strengthens its roster of world-class directors and reinforces its commitment to representing exceptional creative talent across advertising, entertainment, and branded storytelling.
