Reverie welcomes director JJ Augustavo
The director of Macklemore’s Thrift Shop and award-winning brand films joins Reverie Content.
Reverie Content has signed acclaimed director JJ Augustavo to its roster for commercial and branded representation.
With a cinematic style shaped by street culture and a deep-rooted commitment to authenticity, Augustavo brings a signature visual poetry to every frame, earning him accolades across music videos, advertising, and short-form storytelling.
Hailing from Seattle, Augustavo first rose to prominence through his early collaborations with Macklemore, including the breakout hit Thrift Shop, which helped define the artist’s visual identity. He followed that with award-winning videos such as Same Love, which won an MTV VMA, and Can’t Hold Us, which earned a Grammy nomination. His extensive music video credits also include work for Mike Posner, Shawn Mendes, MAGIC!, Arlissa, ScHoolboy Q, and Jay Park, with his video work collectively amassing over four billion views worldwide.
Beyond music, Augustavo has carved out a powerful presence in advertising. His experimental PSA Thoughts and Prayers for the March for Our Lives movement won an ADC Award, while his film We Are Undefeatable for Sport England earned a Creative Circle Bronze Award for Best Film for Positive Change. Other standout campaigns include Mazda’s Unboxed series featuring Hiroyuki Sanada and brand work for Adidas, Reebok, Puma, T-Mobile, Taco Bell, RX Bar, and Cadillac, the latter featuring Lenny Kravitz.
Augustavo’s narrative work continues to evolve alongside his commercial output. His short film Just a Kid From $eattle premiered at Sundance in 2018, and his most recent project, Out of the Abyss a poetic coming-of-age portrait of 15-year-old Seattleite Dreson Jimerson, premiered earlier this month on Shortverse.
“As my career has progressed, my definition of success has changed,” said Augustavo. “To be honest, most of the time I’ve been absolutely terrified about what is next, but I have never let it keep me from doing what I wanted. The more I think about it, the more I believe there is nothing more successful than spending your time with and working with good people, like Rich and Cathleen, who believe in me and my creative voice. I’m looking forward to sharing this next chapter of my life and career with the Reverie team.”
Rich Pring, co-founder and executive producer of Reverie Content, added, “JJ’s films have a singular and authentic vision that stand out to me in a powerful way. He masterfully balances storytelling with a strong, natural visual style. Consistently unearthing culture in his music videos, short films, and brand work, you can always feel his focus getting to the soul of the subject in front of him. JJ also happens to be a very good human, and we’re proud to represent him.”
