What’s the best music video you’ve seen recently and why?

Either Drake featuring J. Cole - First Person Shooter directed by Gibson Hazard, or Meekz - MINI ME'S directed by KC Locke

In both videos, each scene is just ridiculously captivating. Super creative setups and ideas.

What’s the first music video you remember being impressed by?

Definitely Dr Dre - Nuthin' But A "G" Thang. I didn’t even realise that Dr. Dre himself directed it till I Googled it just now, ha!

I feel like the East Coast had a stranglehold on Hip Hop until this moment (although NWA did their thing before this too). But the video was like opening a portal into a new world we had no idea about. The West Coast fashion, cars, lifestyle… it was mind blowing.

And what’s your all-time favourite music video?

Oooh, it’s hard to choose just one! I like Mariah Carey - Honey (Bad Boy Remix) ft. Mase, The Lox directed by Paul Hunter

The Notorious B.I.G. - Hypnotize directed again by Paul Hunter, Nas - Hate Me Now, directed by Hype Williams, and 2Pac ft. Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman - California Love was hard too though!

What other directors/artists do you look to for inspiration?

Hype Williams, Director X, and Paul Hunter.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Right now… Shaboozey, and Laicositna

What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?

I think it has to be my phone. It’s the item I use the most. I get a LOT done on my phone.

What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?

Beyonce, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift. Because they’re the ultimate stimulus packages haha.

Nah, I love the way they care about their art, and the audience they’re able to reach. You can really influence people with your creativity.

How do you feel the promo industry has changed since you started in it?

Well the views have decreased, which in turn means the budgets have decreased. Music videos used to be the most watched content on YouTube… they were huge cultural moments. But with the takeover of short form content, people’s attention has been divided.

Where do you see the music video industry being in five years’ time?

Great question. I think more and more artists will be putting out “content” and visualizers as opposed to going through the effort of enormous videos. I hope I’m wrong.

Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…

I have two degrees. Maybe one day I’ll use them!
