The latest signing at CANADA sees director Max Barden join the company’s Barcelona roster for commercial representation.

Barden is known for comedy-led work that combines absurdist humour, offbeat editing and deadpan performances. After beginning his career as a production and director’s assistant in Melbourne, he trained at Czar Amsterdam under comedy director Bart Timmer before developing his own directing career.

His campaign Flipvertising for Samsung won a Cannes Lions Grand Prix, along with two Silver and one Bronze Lion. Comments Section was shortlisted at the D&AD Awards 2025 and won a Silver Lion at Cannes, marking the first such award for an Australian. He has also directed work for Mountain Goat, Vogel’s, Meadow Fresh, Kalo yoghurt and Meat & Livestock Australia. Beyond advertising, he has gained attention for his TikTok videos, including fake celebrity interviews.

“Max's comedic voice is exactly what we've been looking for. His ability to find humour in unexpected places and deliver it with such precision is truly remarkable,” said CANADA Executive Producer Laura Serra Estorch. “He has the capacity to create work that's not only hilarious but also incredibly effective and award-winning. We're thrilled to welcome his sharp wit and unique perspective to CANADA.”

“When I was 17, I saw Nico and Lope’s The Less I Know The Better music video for Tame Impala, which just so happened to be my favourite band. I’d never seen anything like it, and I vacuumed up all of CANADA’s catalogue,” said Barden. “In 2019, I was invited into their offices when I was fresh out of film school, and it became a goal of mine to somehow, one day, be signed with them. Now that I am, I can’t quite believe it, and whenever I think of it, I start to smile. And I can’t wait to make some funny shit with them and practice my Spanish, or practiar mi español, as they would say.”
