London's Golden Sq Is Searching For 'Craftwerk'

Golden Sq (top London post house) and hybrid production company Disqo have announced the call for entries to Square Art 2013 – the 16th iteration of their art exhibition and competition. The theme for this year's contest is 'Digital v Craft' with submissions either fulfilling the brief of being 'digital' or 'handmade' pieces, or something that explores the tensions, possibilities and hybrid relationship that exists between the two disciplines.

In the words of SqArt, 'We've been inspired by Hockney's iPad paintings, Grayson Perry's pots and tapestries, the Young British Artists' Sedition experiments, Hilary Lloyd's videos and Simon Hasan's leather objects. Interpretation of the brief is down to the individual artist, but could feature any number of media including knitting, moving image, projection mapping, digital prints or pottery.'

The Digital v Craft exhibition and competition will have two strands:

1. Anyone within the UK advertising industry can submit pieces for 'The People's Choice Award'. These will be shortlisted by a stellar jury of art critics, artists and famous faces from the art and advertising world, before final judging by attendees of the exhibition on 16th May 2013.

2. The UK's leading art colleges have been asked to nominate their best digital and craft graduates from 2012. These young artists will be invited to submit pieces for the 'Young Artist Award', to be judged by the Square Art jury.

Deadline for entries is Wednesday 1st May 2013. Submissions are free, and open to anyone who works in the UK advertising industry.
