Last year Alison Phipps, Professor of Sociology at Newcastle University, published her book, Me, Not You: The Trouble with Mainstream Feminism.
The book focuses on the whiteness of the mainstream feminist movement and looks at how white women - especially white, middle class women - can sometimes use feminism for their own ends while ignoring the plight of less privileged women who took up the fight before them.

In their conversation, Kean and Phipps discuss the exclusion of women of colour, sex workers and trans women from the feminist debate, how International Women's Day has become about the politics of representation, and how feminism is at risk of becoming another tool by which to judge people.
