2012 AICP Show Recognizes Top Work

Smuggler tops production company honorees, while work for Google
Chrome via BBH, Moxie and Lost Planet, Chipotle's long-form spot
and Nissan's GT Academy via @radical.media garner top honors.

Google "Dear Sophie," part of a campaign that was top-rated at The AICP Show.

It may have rained in the MoMA sculpture garden last night, but the sun was shining for a handful of production companies, agencies and brands.

The AICP Show is comprised of two bodies of work: The Art & Technique of the American Commercial, now in its 21st year, and The Next Awards, in its sixth. The former honors the best in commercial advertising, while the latter recognizes marketing that crosses boundaries and media channels.

Three spots for Google Creative Labs from BBH in New York were judged to be among the best in the competition, being named the top honoree in the Advertising Excellence/Campaign category: "Dear Sophie," "It Gets Better," and "Bieber." Moxie Pictures served as creative consultant on "Bieber" and "Dear Sophie."  All three were edited at Lost Planet.

The Google campaign joined two other entries as virtual "Best of Show" honorees at the event, held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.  One was the two-and-a-half minute animated Chipotle spot titled "Back To The Start," from Creative Artists Agency and Nexus Productions.  It was honored in the Advertising Excellence/Single Commercial category.   The spot featured a much-hyped music track with Willie Nelson covering Coldplay's "The Scientist." Music supervision and production on the piece was handled by New York-based music and sound shop Duotone.

"Back To The Start," for Chipotle, took best single commercial honors.

Also at the top of the honoree list was "GT Academy," created for Nissan and Sony Playstation by TBWA\Chiat\Day and directed by @radical.media's Jeff Zwart.   It was named the Most Next winner; the award goes to the entry that best exemplifies the most innovative and forward thinking work of the year.

This year's honorees archive is available for viewing at www.aicpshow.com. SourceEcreative members can access the winners list, with full credits, here.

Serving as chair of this year's Show was Jackie Kelman Bisbee, Founding Partner/Co-Owner of Park Pictures.  The AICP also presented its Jay B. Eisenstadt Award to Sally Antonacchio, VP of The Artists Company in New York, in recognition of her long service to both the AICP and to the industry in general.  Antonacchio accepted the award with grace and good humor, thanking the AICP for "letting me into the boys' club," a reference to the fact that all previous Eisenstadt honorees, dating back to the early 1990s, were men.
