Stockholm-based production company Giants & Toys has welcomed director Meriam Braanaas to its roster.
With a distinct comedic voice and a sharp instinct for character, performance and dialogue, Braanaas brings an approach to comedy that feels entirely her own.
Braanaas’ comedy is rooted in people. Through precise casting, subtle performances and just the right amount of awkwardness, she finds humour that feels observed rather than constructed. She also has a particular talent for breaking the fourth wall and creating an immediate connection with the viewer.
After studying journalism and earning her Master’s in Film from USC School of Cinematic Arts, Braanaas stayed in Los Angeles and got a taste for directing commercials after assisting legendary directing collective TRAKTOR.
Since stepping out on her own, she has quickly established a distinct comedic voice, directing campaigns for brands including Telenor, BankID, Tekna, Grilstad, ice and SpareBank. Her BankID film Glupsk Nonne has received multiple accolades, including Gold at Gullblyanten and Sølvfisken.

On joining Giants & Toys, Braanaas says: "I’ve had my eye on Giants for quite some time. I’ve always loved the work they put out and the directors they represent. There are certain moments which you don't necessarily know will have a big impact on you down the line. Standing behind TRAKTOR's monitor after film school was one of them. So to have that connection come together again in Stockholm is pretty great."
