Directing duo D+Y have unveiled Two Drops of Blue, a poetic new short film that recently premiered on NOWNESS, exploring the emotional complexity of friendship, loss and the lingering presence of those we leave behind.

Set in Seoul, the film follows Jinwoo, a young man drifting through the city in the aftermath of losing his closest friend. Moving between fragmented memories and present day solitude, he navigates the uneasy space between love, resentment and acceptance. Rather than relying on dialogue, D+Y build an emotional language through movement, light and rhythm, culminating in a powerful final dance that serves as both confrontation and release.

At its heart, Two Drops of Blue is a meditation on how relationships continue to shape us long after they have ended. Through restrained visuals and carefully choreographed performances, the film captures emotions that are often difficult to articulate, inviting viewers to project their own experiences of memory, absence and connection.

Grounded in the quiet intensity of contemporary Seoul, where closeness and isolation often exist side by side, the film reflects a generation navigating identity, ambition and grief with much of their emotional lives held beneath the surface.

Speaking about the project, D+Y said: "We wanted to explore the complexity of friendship and how something that once felt simple can become much heavier when absence enters the picture. Rather than explain those emotions, we were interested in expressing them through movement, contrast and atmosphere. The film is about what remains after someone is gone and how connection can continue to exist in unexpected ways."

Sorcha Shepherd, MD and EP at Caviar adds; "What excites me about D+Y is their ability to take something deeply personal and make it feel universal. Two Drops of Blue is a beautifully observed piece of filmmaking that balances emotion, craft and cultural insight with real confidence. We pride ourselves on seeking out directors who bring a distinctive perspective to their work, and D+Y continue to demonstrate a maturity and authenticity that sets them apart."
