Denim announce the signing of Emily Kai Bock for Canadian representation.

A Canadian filmmaker whose atmospheric, cinematic and documentary-rooted style has shaped some of the most enduring music videos and commercials of the past decade.

The filmmaker brings with her a body of work that has moved between music culture, narrative cinema and global commercial storytelling, always carrying the same intimate, painterly intensity that has defined her since the beginning.

Bock got into filmmaking through the music and art scene of Montreal, gaining international attention with her viral, era-defining video for Grimes' Oblivion. That early success opened the door to a deeply influential run of music videos for artists including Arcade Fire, Lorde, Solange and Grizzly Bear, her video for Arcade Fire's Afterlife earning the Prism Prize for Best Canadian Music Video and a UK Music Video Award.

Her narrative work has carried the same weight. Her 35mm short A Funeral for Lightning won the Grand Jury Award for Best Short Fiction at the LA Film Festival and was selected as one of TIFF's Canada's Top Ten. Paul Thomas Anderson has publicly praised Bock's work, citing her as a directorial influence during a masterclass at the New York Film Festival. Across her commercial career, Emily has directed projects for Vogue, Yves Saint Laurent, Coca-Cola, Coach, Facebook, Toyota and Google.

Her signing reflects Denim's continued focus on directors with a clear point of view and a deep respect for craft. Since its official launch in 2024, the company has positioned itself as a creative production home built around collaboration, process and original storytelling across the Canadian market, with a continued commitment to fostering Canadian talent. Having a filmmaker of Bock's calibre represented at home marks an exciting next chapter.

“I’ve been a fan of Emily’s work for as long as I can remember. She is one of those rare directors whose visual signature you can recognize instantly. There's a softness and an honesty to her work, but also a real boldness in the way she builds atmosphere and emotion. She's helped shape the visual language of a generation of filmmakers through music videos and commercials that feel like films, and we feel incredibly lucky to welcome her home to Canada,” said Christian Tyler, MD/EP of Denim

Bock said, "I'm thrilled to be joining Denim for Canadian representation. There's something really special about being represented in my homeland, and Denim feels like the right team to do that with - I'm excited to make a lot of great Canadian work with them."
