Chromista welcomes filmmaker Renny Maslow to its roster of acclaimed talent.

Revered for his clever approach to all flavours of character-driven comedy, Maslow’s commercials are sharp, visually disruptive, and timeless. His first commercial collaboration with Chromista was a satirical spot starring Chace Crawford (The Boys) for EA’s hero-shooter game Apex Legends.

Maslow’s directorial sensibilities ground even the most absurd circumstances in relatable, understated performances, ensuring his commercial films stand the test of time. Prior to becoming a director, Maslow built a foundation as an editor on films, music videos, and spots, a background that proved invaluable in teaching him to calibrate tone and refine his visual efficiency as a storyteller.

His portfolio includes several high-profile Super Bowl commercials, such as Bud Light's Rescue Dog and an Emmy Award-winning campaign for The NFL on FOX. Additionally, he has directed campaigns for major brands like Hefty, Mars, Target, M&Ms, State Farm, and Apple. His work has also featured high-profile talents such as LeBron James, Jimmy Fallon, and John Cena, among others.

Outside of his prolific commercial filmmaking career, Maslow directed the documentary short Messi & Me, which followed the unlikely fallout from football player Matt Eliason’s scene-stealing bicycle kick. He is currently attached to direct the feature film Bag Boys, starring Blake Jenner, and is developing his dark-comedy feature film Arm and a Leg. Maslow is also in the midst of showing a body of photographic work titled Signs Of Life, where he’s using his cinematic sensibilities to capture moments of oddity and drama that are naturally occurring all around us. Signs Of Life debuted at The Good Mother Gallery in Los Angeles earlier this year.

“Chromista felt different to me, they’re boutique but run by some of the most seasoned and smart producers in the business who are also just good people.” Remarks Maslow on signing. "Ted, Adina, and Jeff bring a ton of experience and valuable relationships from all aspects of the business to the table. And most importantly, for a creative problem solver like myself, they want to make great projects happen.”

Chromista’s managing director and partner, Jeff Baron, adds, “Renny’s already hit the ground running with us. The spot he did for EA’s Apex Legends was the perfect balance of wry and irreverent without tipping the hat too much. He puts relatability first and foremost because that intangible connection with the audience often makes a commercial sink or swim, and there’s no better way to bridge that gap than with laughter. Renny is doing just that. We look forward to seeing what else comes from this partnership.”
