Eectric Theatre Collective’s Colour roster just got stronger. Colourist Alex Winker has joined the award-winning collective for UK and US representation.

A self-taught talent, Winker turned his ambition into reality when he downloaded grading software DaVinci Resolve aged sweet sixteen. In the years that followed, he cut his teeth on student films and National Geographic web spots, before getting a gig as an Assistant at newly launched The Farm in LA.

Not too fond of spending ten hours a day in a windowless room in sunny California, a working relationship with a Director saw him spend two months travelling along the Rio Grande for the feature film The River And The Wall. “I got stranded in drug trafficking corridors, had a gun pulled on me and adopted a cat with my now-wife. Fair to say it was an adventure.”

The film went on to win the Jury Award at SXSW in 2019, and in the months that followed, Winker continued to land freelance gigs, eventually stepping over into the world of commercials and music promos. He’s graded projects for Meta, Apple, Corona and Nike, as well as artists including Becky G and Jack Harlow. In 2023, he experienced more award success, when short film When You Left Me On That Boulevard won the Sundance Jury Award for Best Short.

An amateur Colour Scientist in his spare time (yes, really), Texas-born Winker says it’s the level of finesse that drew him to ETC: “I’m looking forward to bringing my clients into a space where they have a higher level of output than I can provide alone. I love diving into Director and DP worlds and helping establish a visual tone, and I can’t wait to push that in my new residence at ETC.”

Director of Colour, Luke Morrison, adds: “Alex’s arrival enhances what is already an impressive roster. His background in long-form is evident in his cinematic approach to light and tone and his love for the craft is inspiring. Welcome to the team, Alex.”
