Tesco Create Bags That Remove Pesticides from Food

Following a Greenpeace China study that found that 90% of fruits and vegetables in the country were contaminated with pesticides, Tesco have introduced Safety Bags, which use photocatalysis to remove pesticides from food, all with a rather cute smiley face.

In case you're not up to date on your scientific breakthroughs, photocatalysis is "a process that breaks down compounds using the power of light, and is proven to destroy toxic chemicals, including even pesticides" according to a Cheil WW Hong Kong spokesperson. Impressive science, partially explained in the graphic below, not undermined at all by the fact that they call vegetables 'veggies' in the case study video.

Not only have these bags proved understandably popular during their trial, but they have also received FDA approval, and come the end of testing Tesco hope to roll out the bags globally for those who like their carrots without chlordane  or their dragon fruit without DDT.
