It’s Friday and it’s World Chocolate Day so what better way to celebrate 467 years since chocolate was introduced to Europe, than a selection of our favourite chocolate commercials?

Ranging from celebrity-fronted Super Bowl spots to cheeky animals, these campaigns are a mixed tray of classic commercials to get your sweet tooth into.

Cadbury: Gorilla

This iconic spot was created by London-based Fallon. When Gorilla was released in August 2007 it got the public speculating as to who was in the suit, and whether Phil Collins himself had donned the giant ape outfit. Despite not actually featuring any Cadbury’s products, the spot still managed to increase the brand’s sales 9 per cent from the same period the year before.

Mars: Winning

A shots favourite just for the its strangeness. I mean, who wouldn’t want a dog that can play Crocket’s theme on the panpipes? Created by AMV BBDO, it spearheaded a campaign for the brand celebrating the everyday wins.

Snickers: The Brady Bunch

With so many brilliant spots from the You’re Not You When Your Hungry campaign to choose from, it’s hard to pick just one. But we did. Created by BBDO New York and helmed by Jim Jenkins through O Positive this Super Bowl offering sees American classic The Brady Bunch welcome some new cast members.

Rolo: Elephant

Another classic; this film proved successful on the festival circuit, picking up the Film Lions Grand Prix at Cannes in 1996. As part of our On Reflection feature, shots caught up with director Rogier van der Ploeg to find out first-hand about the spot.

Milky Way: Red Car/Blue Car

Even the mention of this ad will get the theme song stuck in your head for days. Released back in 1989 it featured a red 1951 Buick Roadmaster and a blue 1959 Cadillac Series 62 having a race, with the red car eating everything in sight, set to possibly one of the catchiest jingles of all time. The advert re-aired in 2009, although this time not featuring the brand’s tagline “The sweet you can eat between meals without ruining your appetite”.

Cadbury's Milk Tray: The Milk Tray Man

From 1968 to 2003 Cadbury's classic selection box was promoted by The Milk Tray Man, a tough James Bond–esque figure who will stop at nothing to deliever the product, "And all because the lady loves Milk Tray". During the campaigns run six actors played the hero, with a new Milk Tray man selected in October 2015, for the 100th anniversary of the box's creation.
