It’s not easy being an advertising director – long hours, little pay and sometimes limited creative input.

But in a new spot promoting the launch of the ASUS ZenFone 3, pedestrians were given the chance to sit in the director’s seat and have a go at helming a commercial. And they enjoyed 100 percent creative control.

 

 

Created by SuperHeroes, the ad fuses together the creativity of New York’s streets, asking random people to lend their imagination to share what they’d like to see in the phone ad.

Because so many people were involved in the ad's conception, the crowdsourced spot helmed by Nils Gerbens boasts a rather fantastical and dramatic story, featuring dinosaurs, aliens, snowy beaches… and an international car model. Not your typical ad backdrop.

Thankfully, the creative team organised the spot into a clear narrative which even manages to successfully (and quite subtly) promote the phone’s main features; its action camera and music capabilities.
