The bond between man and animal can be very special, leading some to call their dogs their best friend. But it seems the same can’t be said for most children.

Playtime with pups can turn nasty if kids get over-excited and don’t know how to handle dogs.

Dog food supplier Pedigree has decided to launch a fun and interactive way to educate kids about how to act around fluffy mutts.

Together with Colenso BBDO, dog behaviour experts and Auckland Council’s animal management team, they have created a new app to teach children about keeping their cool around canines.

A Dog’s Story features eight basic lessons for kids to learn – from first time meetings with dogs, petting pooches and how to manage mutts when eating.

The app has already been used by some students and may be introduced in primary schools as an educational device.

The app is free to download and available for Android and Apple. Now even children can garner the respect they need to call a dog their best friend.
