22squared is a US advertising agency, known for its happily fiesty approach.

Executive vice president and chief creative director John Stapleton has been a stable team member for over 15 years and has witnessed the changing face of the industry. He has overseen the agency's rebranding efforts and continues to lead its creative production.

His addiction to tech and information occupies most of his time, although he seemingly maintains a healthy balance and regularly escapes on inspirational cycling expeditions.

Below, he talks to shots about what makes him ticks, his love for 22squared and why he thinks Banksy has us all fooled.

What’s the best ad campaign you’ve seen recently?

I would say the Geico's Unskippable YouTube campaign (below). I think it’s brilliant - especially in an era where ads are rarely watched and enjoyed on YouTube. The amazing part of these ads are the craft and fun. These could have easily failed or have fallen short, but I love how much effort went into the finished product.

What website(s) do you use most regularly and why?

I’m a huge fan of Reddit. It gives me a constant pulse on news and culture. I spend way too much time there.

What’s the most recent piece of tech that you’ve bought and why?

Apple Watch. I am an avid cyclist and a semi-avid runner who loves to collect and monitor data. I had a device for each activity before, but now I have just one.

Facebook, Instagram or Twitter?

All three, but Twitter is fading fast for me. I have never grasped using it as a broadcast channel for myself. Instagram is my go-to creative outlet.

What’s your favorite app on your phone and why?

I love Pocketgur. It’s a great way to zip through Imgur stories quickly. What’s Imgur? It’s a hub for the most viral images on the internet.

What’s your favorite TV show and why?

Silicon Valley. Mike Judge is a genius at exaggerating the ridiculousness of life. I have never laughed so hard at some of those scenes.

What film do you think everyone should have seen?

Exit Through the Gift Shop. It is an incredibly smart movie with lots of creative inspiration. The inside joke of it all is that it is a Banksy classic.

Where were you when inspiration last struck?

I just got back from spending two weeks at a lake in northeast Georgia. I spent a lot of time pedaling the mountains and clearing my head. This is where I conjure up lots of ideas – both good and bad.

What’s the most significant change you’ve witnessed in the industry since you started working in it?

I would say the blurring of advertising and content. It’s becoming the same thing now. This has challenged our clients and our agency to rethink the entire marketing model - especially with mobile.

What or who has most influenced your career and why?

The creative culture at 22. The people who thrive here are people willing to take risks, fail fast and offer up help to make something better. This safe haven has helped me learn something new every day.

Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…

I can’t stand concerts. I would rather listen to the album instead. :-)
