With only two weeks until the big day, the Christmas parties are coming thick and fast with a host of companies having already decked out their digs as perfect winter wonderland venues ready for some seasonal action.

In the spirit of cold, December nights on the social calendar and all things festive, below is a list of ads that pay homage to the traditional office party.

Glad rags

We’ll be feeling festive on Friday (12 December) along with the rest of the nation as the UK sports its seasonal glad rags in aid of Save the Children. This Sainsbury’s spot, launched last week, will offer some inspiration for the day and the dads on stage throwing shapes are an entertaining bonus. The work is created by Gravity Road to launch the retailer’s range of designs and went viral in its first few days online.

Billy badmouth

Okay, so the second half of this spot isn’t Christmassy at all but the first 45 seconds invites us to the scene of a traditional office Christmas party where Elaine Johnson arrives before planting a smacker on the protagonist under the mistletoe. The tinsel and traditional vibe gets it a deserved inclusion on our Party Season playlist and the work was directed back in 2004 by Spank’s Aasaf Ainapore for the London Production Fund.

Dress distress

Once at the all-important party, glares will be given and observations made about the choice of attire on the night. Harvey Nichols knows this and for its Christmas campaign in 2012 decided to form a Christmas campaign based on the idea of a Same Dress Disaster. At an office Christmas jaunt two women realise they are wearing the same party piece and before long are locked in a war of laser representative of scathing looks. adam&eveDDB and Stink teamed up for the job and director Ne-o helmed the action.

Night fever

Harvey Nics has made a name for itself with its tongue-in-cheek Christmas campaigns over the past few years and this one doesn’t buck the trend. When the DJ stops spinning and all the finger food is gone, only the hardcore party-goers will remain. But they have to go home at some point and the Walk of Shame, again from adam&eveDDB, does a good job of tracking their progress. Featuring a handful of the women that fall in that bracket, making their way home on London’s streets in the early hours of the morning, the ad makes for amusing viewing.

Christmas catch up

Mocking the walk of shame is all well and good but watching the next piece of work will convince you that it’s the sensible thing to do, no matter how late – or early – your party goes on until. Taking us to the scene of a sobering accident, AMV BBDO’s spot sees various emergency workers attending to those involved. Set to the soundtrack of Kool and The Gang’s 1980 hit, Celebration, the poignant piece is a stark reminder to party safe this Christmas.
