Skrillex Releases Album Via Interactive App
Dubstep giant’s new record to be launched through Alien Race app in which fans play games to unlock tracks.
Once called ‘the most hated man in dubstep’ by legions of UK underground music fans, US DJ/producer Skrillex, AKA Sonny Moore, has taken a novel approach to releasing his debut album – via a unique interactive game app.
The new record, titled Recess, is set for an exclusive iTunes release on Monday 17 March but is currently being unsuspectingly premiered and shared with fans via the Alien Ride app.
The app is an Asteroids-style game that requires players to complete levels to unlock streams of the tracks and upon completion, pre-order links to download the album. Alien Ride was released on Friday 7 March and new songs have been added every 30 minutes from last night (11 March).
There is no mention of the producer himself or the new album anywhere on the app with the only hint being the game’s logo, which resembles Recess’s album cover.
