shots talks to Black Dog's Price James from the set of his latest promo shoot for Peaches track, Talk To Me

Dorian Grey Hair Horror

I wanted to shoot a genre video for a while and thought the intro to Peach's track had a great John Carpenter synth vibe that would let us get some creepy moving shots across the floor. The rest of the video built from there.

I had the idea of a painting coming to life from the 'talk to me' lyric, like an intimate coversation without having to have another person there. It was also a great excuse to do some painting warping 80's special effects.

Nova Dando the stylist had seen the location, an old pub, before and recommended it to me and it turned out to be perfect. Ashley Dando, the art director, had to move a few props and that was it in the main bedroom. The room is actually Pauline the landladies bedroom where she sleeps and we only moved one mirror in that room.

We constructed the painting of Peach with an artist friend of mine called Henry Heal. He painted up the textures of the image and we photographed and comped it together with a shot taken by Peach of herself against a white wall in new york and emailed across.

The entire crew were friends or friends of friends, so the atmosphere was great on set. With a minimal crew I knew we could get more than with a huge team of sparks due to the tight set , because the idea was based around a top light. We shot with the red cam at 4k for 35mm lens and a short depth of field. I love that in-and-out-of-focus look, even though focus pullers were getting stressed and I had to keep convincing them it looked great.

Peach was amazing. I've shot 3 videos with her now and she just turns it on in front of the camera. She actually got hit on the head by the Victorian dressing room screen but she didn't even blink, and it was hard and really heavy. I think I would have cried.

The rushes are incredible. Actually there was so much we couldn't even use as the girls had been drinking in the pub underneath the main shoot and were seriously getting frisky, but it all added to the fun. I was scared at times, I couldnt control them. I was shouting like a crowd control riot policeman 'stand back 2 paces!' but it didnt really work as they all loved Peach and wanted to be in the video. It was hilarious. There's actually illegal x-rated rushes on James Wright's machine that will never see the light of day... Well maybe one day.

I editted with James on Final Cut then exported a Quicktime for Framestore to clean up. I love Framestore.

Everyone worked so hard - I am in everyone's debt.. Story of my life
