Church Edit adds Alex Pieterse
Global post house Church Edit adds Alex Pieterse to their next gen roster.
Church Edit furthers its expanding slate of forward-thinking editors with the addition of Alex Pieterse to its Next Gen roster, a talent incubator designed to support emerging artists from within and create space in the industry for fresh perspectives.
Rooted in intuition and a distinct editorial rhythm, Pieterse’s versatile body of work is defined by a story-first sensibility that draws out the emotional undercurrent of every frame, complementing Church’s commitment to craft and forward-thinking approach to post.
With Dutch and Spanish roots, Pieterse’s diverse perspective reflects an international upbringing and years of creative exploration across formats, with an expansive portfolio that moves fluidly between commercials, music videos, narrative, and documentary work. After getting his start in long-form storytelling as an assistant at VICE, he discovered that his passion for editing found its truest expression in short-form and soon moved into freelance work. From there, he began cutting for major brands like Adidas, ASICS, Versace, and Volkswagen.
The Pop Trading Company x Adidas Season II campaign marked a creative breakthrough for Pieterse, sharpening his editorial fluency through its unique blend of narrative, documentary, and branded filmmaking, and sparking his first connection with Church co-founder Mah Ferraz. The project also set in motion a long-standing creative partnership with director Fabio de Frel, with whom he’s gone on to craft standout pieces like OYSHO’s A Day at the Resort, in which Pieterse wove six standalone films into one cohesive narrative, and Feel Fast for Adidas, where the edit channels the rhythm and vitality of running through the streets of Cape Town.
“I am so unbelievably excited to join this wonderful, talented group of people and to bring my own unique editing voice to the table,” says Pieterse. “From the moment Church was born, I knew straight away it was something I wanted to be a part of. What it stands for, the people it represents, and the fresh energy it brings to the edit game are all things I love, believe in, and stand for myself. When I first spoke with Mah and Emilie, it immediately felt like I was talking to friends I’d known all along. For me, that’s the most important connection you can have in this creative industry - the comfort of knowing you can just be yourself.”
Reflecting on Pieterse signing, Ferraz adds: “Sometimes you meet someone and can immediately feel how well they’ll fit within the energy of the team, the way they see, think, and create naturally clicks with the culture. That’s how it felt with Alex. We couldn’t be happier to welcome him into the Church Family.”
