Production company Caviar has signed director Pete Novosel to its US commercial roster.
The Australian-born director is known for a distinct comedic sensibility that focuses on human behaviour rather than traditional punchlines, finding humour in the small, unexpected choices people make and then committing fully to them. The result is work that feels grounded, slightly offbeat, and recognisably human.
Novosel is particularly known for drawing natural, lived-in performances from athletes and non-actors. Over the years he has directed an impressive roster of sports talent, including Patrick Mahomes, Simone Biles, Dak Prescott, and Tony Hawk, creating work that reveals a more relatable and human side of global icons.
Notes Caviar Managing Director Michael Sagol, “Pete’s work has always shown originality and a vision that feels truly distinctive. Pete has a remarkable ability to draw natural, authentic performances from everyone he works with, from global athletes and Hollywood talent to first-time performers, and we’re very excited to be working together again.”
Novosel has also collaborated with leading Hollywood talent, including Matthew McConaughey and Seth Rogen. His ongoing creative relationship with Rogen and partner Evan Goldberg has included work for Rogen’s cannabis lifestyle brand Houseplant, as well as Novosel’s short film Teller Number Four, which was a finalist for the International Short Film Competition Award.
Prior to directing, Novosel worked as a creative director at 72andSunny, where he helped lead major campaigns for global brands and earned recognition including a Cannes Lions for Rolling with the Champion: Kevin Durant x LeBron James x Cari Champion, along with honours from The One Show, the Clio Awards, and the Effies.
Novosel has also been exploring the creative use of emerging technologies in production. Working closely with partners including Google, he has experimented with ways AI can function as a practical filmmaking tool, helping teams solve production challenges and work more efficiently while preserving the craft of filmmaking by focusing time on the parts that matter most: performance, storytelling, and character.
Adds Novosel, “Caviar was the first roster I was ever on as a director. I left, tried a few things, and now I’m back again, which feels either poetic or like they’ve very generously forgotten what happened the first time. Either way, I’m excited to make things together that are funny, slightly unexpected, and hopefully memorable."
True to his Australian roots, Novosel’s approach to comedy often carries a blunt honesty and understated tone that resonates with audiences and brands alike. His hands-on background as both a creative director and filmmaker informs a collaborative process on set that prioritises performance, authenticity, and character-driven storytelling.
